Purpose of Role
The Engineering Maintenance Foreman fulfils a tactical guidance role to oversee subordinates, providing guidance and support to carry out maintenance requirements in the workplace and apply a best practice approach to equipment maintenance within the specific area of responsibility.
Role Context
- Oversee subordinates, coordinate, and carry out proactive and reactive maintenance in the workplace to ensure equipment availability and safe production continuity and legal compliance;
- Legal responsibility in terms of 2.9.2 appointment of the MHSA;
- Cost management and control;
- Working knowledge of implementing maintenance strategies and root cause analysis and RCM principles;
- Working knowledge of SHEQ standards and legislation.
- Supervise and inspect work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications and acceptable work practices and workmanship;
- Ensure that the workshop housekeeping and operating practices are of a high standard and that special tools and equipment is well maintained;
- Develop and implement improvements where necessary;
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholder to ensure optimal performance.
- Shareholder value Creation: Budget compilation and control, ensure that engineering strategies are aligned to optimize engineering costs, visit identified sites and plants to conduct Engineering process benchmarks;
- Engage with Engineering leadership team and recommend benchmarked methods and techniques and attendance to identified engineering conferences and workshops;
- Obtain access Engineering journals and intelligence to expand current knowledge and practice.
- Safety, Health, Environment and Risk Control: Ensure compliance with Fatal Risk Control Protocols and SHEQ standards and legislation;
- Participate in the divisional SHEQ management system and report all SHEQ incidents.
- Organizational Learning and Development: Ensure skills training Identified to correct any shortcomings, all Artisan skills assessed and suitably trained;
- Identify formal Engineering training and development required;
- Conduct regular practical training and coaching sessions for artisans;
- Maintain a training support function for the area of responsibility.
- Engineering maintenance Control and improvement: Plan, organise, lead, and control artisans, apprentices and assistants in all maintenance activities.
- Supervise and inspect work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with maintenance plans and specifications and acceptable work practices and workmanship.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures.
- Realise, achieve, and maintain set standards, provide expert advice and guidance;
- Ensure that the workshop housekeeping and operating practices are of a high standard and that tools and equipment is well maintained
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholder to ensure optimal performance.
- Engineering Excellence: Optimize resources to ensure efficient and timely completion of the work;
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard identification;
- Development of maintenance plans for the equipment;
- Plan and communicate staffing requirements;
- Perform Root Cause Analysis;
- Ensure proper access control in the workplace;
- Control and update safety registers;
- Manage contractor work quality and costs;
- Generation of reports.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12/N3
- Studying towards National Diploma in Mechanical will be advantageous;
- Trade Certificate – Diesel/Petrol Mechanic;
- Supervisor / Foreman Certificate;
Job specific experience:
- MS Office: Word/Excel/Outlook;
- At least 5 years’ experience as Artisan in Open Cast Mining Operations;
- AMT PM and MM experience will be advantageous;
- Valid medical certificate. (Red ticket);
- Valid driver’s license.
